Excerpt from Braunschweiger Zeitung (Braunschweig Daily), dated
February 5, 2003:
Georg Hoffmann celebrates 65 birthday
On February 5, Georg
Hoffmann, founder and managing director of Hoffmann Maschinen- und
Apparatebau GmbH in Lengede, Germany, celebrated his 65th birthday.
This will also mark his retirement from the company. After graduating
from middle school in Braunschweig, Germany, G. Hoffmann, who was born
in Danzig, completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter and
toolmaker in 1959 at Büssig Trucks. Completing his program of
studies as an engineer in Bad Honnef, G. Hoffmann also worked as a
development engineer in Switzerland up to 1970. In 1971 he then founded
his own company in a literal wooden barracks in Braunschweig, and this,
as he likes to emphasize, without any assistance from the government.
Since then the Hoffmann company has been developing and manufacturing
customized filter facilities for oils and emulsions used in
grinding/machining. In 1979, it started to become cramped in
Braunschweig with 10 employees and the company relocated to the Old
Mathilde mine grounds in Lengede, where the company has continued to
grow right up to the present. Hoffmann company was able to secure a top
position in the market with a number of newly and further developed
products and a business policy strongly oriented toward customer
satisfaction, products which also include recirculation chilling units
and oil mist extraction systems. Facilities with a value of up to EUR1
million each are shipped throughout the world for gearing, gearbox,
turbine and ball bearing industrial applications. Top customers include
VW, Bosch, ZF, Volvo, Rolls Royce Aerospace, Caterpillar and the INA
Werke. In 1984 G. Hoffmann opened the Hoffmann Filter Corp. in Detroit,
Michigan to also provide products for the American market. Today, the
Hoffmann company has 150 employees in the group, with 130 of those
located in Lengede and Broistedt, Germany, the site of a 5000 square
meter production building as an expansion for large-scale central
facilities since 2001. The group also includes the Filcon GmbH
developer and component supplier in Ilsede, and Filcare Sales and
Service Inc. in Savannah, Georgia. The Hoffmann family has laid the
groundwork well for a change of generations at the company. Georg
Hoffmann's son Tobias has been a managing partner in the company for
several years now, with his brother Oliver performing the same function
at Filcon.
July 2001:
